Thanks for the good times.

This website has been inactive since late 2008, and figured I should probably make a public note of it. I moved to Portland and never found anyone to take over, though most everyone seemed to have continued on through other channels, such as the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Club. I’d recommend contacting them if you are inquiring about upcoming events or information on Swedes in Chicago in general.

Once again, thanks for the wonderful times. It was lovely to have met so many great people and that we got to pull off so many fun events together. Don’t forget to stop by the Swedish American Museum when you’re up near Andersonville, especially during Midsommar or the December Christmas celebrations!

Now showing Hästmannen this Sunday!

Please see our event page for all the details!

One more thing

Also, I am currently in the process of moving to Portland (and am sending this from there). This does not mean that this will be the last showing of the film program necessarily, but the museum may need someone to assist them in the future. If anyone is interested in helping with either the film program or Lagom Events in general please send an email to me at lagom@chicagoswedes.org. Thanks!

Swedish Film Program to Start Up Again Soon

It’s almost fall so that means it’s soon time for movies! The Swedish Film Program, that we run at the Swedish American Museum, will soon be starting up again now that summer’s over. We have two incredible documentaries lined up which we’ll be showing between now and Thanksgiving. The first one is called “Hästmannen” and the other “Bondens tid på Jorden,” both films created by Peter Gerdehag and Tell Johansson. No dates have been finalized yet, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we decide.

In the meantime, you can check out another great Swedish artist who makes incredibly sweet pop music- Hello Saferide’s new single “Anna”.

Sofia Talvik plays a show at the Museum before Lollapalooza

Thursday, July 31st, the Swedish American Museum will be hosting a special performance by an incredible Swedish singer-songwriter Sofia Talvik. She’ll be playing at Lollapalooza the following day, so this is a special chance to catch her in a more intimate setting. There’s a bio on our site, but here are some quick highlights:

  • She has a recent single out performing a duet with Bernard Butler of Suede called “It’s Just Love”
  • On her latest album, which she put out on her own label, she collaborated with Tobias Fröberg, whose worked with several great musicians, including a favorite - Jose Gonzalez.
  • She’s done everything herself - not just the songwriting, playing, and singing - but runs her own records label, does her own promotions, and consistently puts out incredibly beautiful music.

Please see our event page for all of the info!

And she has a new tour blog on Aftonbladet.se documenting this trip to the States!!
